CTL Construction has an absolute focus on quality work.
We specialise in building for some of New Zealand’s leading architects and their clients – people who demand excellence. Our standards are exacting and our customer service and communications second to none.
We’re not the cheapest, but we’re certainly amongst the very best.
James Donaldson and Brendon Murphy have a collective 50 years of building experience between them, including work in Germany.
James is a man of few words. That’s because his work does the talking for him.
One half of the dynamic duo that makes up the partnership behind CTL Construction, James has worked on building sites for 25 years and for some of the biggest names in the business. Five years ago he set up his own building company to create homes for people who want a seamless commitment to quality work.
Since then, James and Brendon have built multi-million dollar homes around the Auckland region, facing challenging construction issues and exacting clients and have excelled with every home they’ve built.
Brendon initially learnt his craft in New Zealand before leaving to work in Europe, mostly Germany, for twenty years.
What he brought back was an absolute focus on quality systems and quality work. Not a young man, his age is belied by his sprightliness as he bounces around the building sites maintaining a watchful eye on his flock of apprentice, Licensed Building Practitioners, and sub-contractors.
When you want a building site that is pristine, and building work that is finished to a millimetre-fine finish, Brendon is your man.
This new family house in Cox’s Bay is surrounded by an eclectic collection of suburban houses: villas and bungalows frame a pocket of state houses and duplexes while, further down the street, contemporary newcomers display various degrees of assimilation into their context.
This project provided an opportunity to reclaim the front yard as a living space by making a denser floor plan at the back of the site, with more compact and private urban courts within the new footprint. It borrows concepts from the existing context, such as repurposing historical motifs, but crosses them with a contemporary plan to stitch the site together and create more usable space.
- A contemporary form is sensitively designed for a heritage street through careful handling of siting, scale, form and materials.
- Subject to ood-plain controls, the front yard has been raised and drained to make a useable outdoor space.
- The many small, multipurpose rooms can be reassigned for di erent uses over time as the children grow and family needs change.
- Car parking is minimised to a single garage and stack parking to give priority to human use.
