Use these checklists so you can keep track of where you're at in the planning and post-build stages:

checkboxV2.jpg Obtain a Project Information Memoranda (PIM) from Council for all building work proposals if required (no longer mandatory).

checkboxV2.jpg Obtain a building consent for all building work that is not exempted in schedule 1 before commencing work.

checkboxV2.jpg Ensure all building work undertaken that is exempted from the need to obtain a building consent complies with the building code.

checkboxV2.jpg Where required, obtain resource consent and other authorisations under Bylaws before commencing any building work.

checkboxV2.jpg  Ensure easements and covenants on the title are complied with.  

checkboxV2.jpg Notify Council of any proposed change in building use and not effect that change until written approval is obtained from the Council.        

checkboxV2.jpg Ensure building compliance schedule inspections, maintenance and reporting procedures (where applicable) are completed.

checkboxV2.jpg  Apply to Council for a Code Compliance Certificate upon completion of consented building work.

Post Construction Checklist

checkboxV2.jpg Ensure your building is maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. 

checkboxV2.jpg Undertake maintenance to ensure on-going durability and performance. 

checkboxV2.jpg Ensure the annual building Warrant of Fitness (not required for residential homes) is signed off in due time.

checkboxV2.jpg Ensure copies of the Warrant of Fitness and LBP reports are provided to Council with the prescribed fee. 

checkboxV2.jpg Strengthen earthquake prone buildings in accordance with Council policy.
