Style

What kind of person are you – traditional and conservative, contemporary and modern?
The style of house design you choose should reflect your tastes and most definitely desires. This is your chance to produce something that will last a long time so we encourage you to make it as good as you can.
With a pitched roof, centred on the site, eaves, brick and tile or timber weatherboards; the traditional New Zealand House is weatherproof and comfortable.
Modernist is the new trend for many newly designed homes. Modernist does not necessarily mean minimalist, though the two terms are regularly swapped for each other.
Minimalist is a design style that strips out everything from the home except absolutely essential items – usually built in items, like a kitchen bench. Modernist is a design style that goes back to the 1920s and can be seen in expansive use of glass, open plan living areas, etc….
There are a range of other styles but ultimately, the style is determined by your tastes and the location and topography of the site on which you’re building. Read widely, look at magazines, walk the streets and look for homes you admire – and make sure you and your partner both agree.
